Haiti/Katrina

All though i believe that it's a good thing that we are helping the other's in Haiti. But what i don't understand how we can help other's before we help ourselves. When hurricane Katrina had occurred in the United States our own people were in trouble and suffering and it took us how long to get supplies to them to help them survive. Now today the country of Haiti has gone through an earthquake and it took us no longer than a few days to start sending things to them and getting supplies for them. What my question is, is who should we be more concerned for? Should we be more concerned with what's going on in our country and how we can help or should we be more worried about the other countries that in the end we don't know will help us in the future.

  1. I do agree that the response for Haiti was much more widespread and time efficient compared to that of the Katrina Disaster. It took 5 days for FEMA to get water to the Superdome which was home for thousands immediately following the disaster. I am completely for helping other countries like Haiti but more importantly, I am for making sure that such a lapse in communication and resource control does not occur again on our own soil.
